This character is played by Lynn, who also plays Aisling O'Riain
Finley O'Riain
Name: Finley O'Riain (Fair Warrior King)
Nickname: Fin
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Pets: None Currently
Family:
Mother: Adelaide
Father: Athair
Fraternal Twin: Aisling
Job: Hunter/Journeyman Beasthandler(Stablehand)
Looks: At 6'2 inches tall and roughly 200 lbs, Finley is a muscular young man, but in a more whipcord way. His thighs and legs are noticeably so, due to his riding habit, but he has muscle to his arms and shoulders as well, a fairly decent six pack beginning to develop. His hair is a rich coppery red in hue, with veins of actual gold that give it a slightly fiery appearance that distinguishes him from others, and it hangs to just under his ears, with a floppy bit that likes to get in his face. His skin is a pale tone, reminiscent of snow, with noticeable freckles gracing his nose, and more scattered across his shoulders and neck, visible when he removes his shirt. His eyes are a pale lavender shade that gives away the semi-albinism he inherited, and are usually covered with dark sunglasses, as he's photosensitive to bright lights. He prefers more of the cowboy look, with the distinctive red and white plaid shirts, blue jeans and cowboy boots. He possesses a cowboy hat, but doesn't wear it often.
Personality: Finley is intelligent, slow to anger but quick to cool, since a short temper just doesn't work well when dealing with animals. He's not good with girls, stutters a bit when dealing with pretty ones, although if they display a brain he'll be happy to talk with them. He's really protective of his sister, but knows that he has to let Aisling deal with her own problems, although he will back her up if he feels she needs it. He doesn't want people seeing him or his twin as wusses, or people seeing Aisling as always hiding behind him when things get tough.
He enjoys Anne McCaffrey's books about Dragonriders and such things, perhaps more than most other series he has read. He also likes puttering with electronics and has entered the robotics contest at his former High School and won it before. His robot was simple, a little bug-shaped thing that was able to walk on its own and carry items such as a flashlight or camera(or both) strapped to it. He loves the little thing, and still has it. He enjoys tinkering with it, trying to make it better, stronger, not faster perhaps, but better armored and sturdier, just in case he ever has a reason to use it for something that requires it to be so. He would love to go into Bio-engineering one day, and has already taken college courses in high school to lead that direction.
History: Finley was the second of twins, born minutes after his sister, Aisling. They were born in Southern Ireland, raised by good, sturdy Irish parents, but when they were young, their parents divorced, and the twins lived with their mother, with occasional trips to see their father as well. In time, both parents remarried, so the twins technically have four parents rather than two. Finley was always the more outdoorsy type, despite his photosensitivity and easily sunburned complexion and especially loved being around horses and other such ranch animals. When he was ten, his mother decided to let him take riding lessons(after three years of hard begging on Finley's part), and he was always thrilled to go and have fun. He managed to convince his sister to join him, but after a year of that, she decided it wasn't for her, making it his hobby alone.
Both twins enjoyed reading, and at roughly thirteen, Finley discovered the world of Pern and instantly fell in love with everything about it. The simplicity of the Pernese lives, the bio-engineering that led to the magnificent dragons. He sympathized heavily with the photosensitive Watch-Whers, understanding their plight all too well, and, given the choice, he would have honestly said he would prefer to be a Wher-Handler. As he aged, he discovered girls as well, but they make him so nervous that he tends to avoid them, especially the prettier ones.
School was tough for the twins at first. Due to Finley's photosensitivity, he had to wear sunglasses inside, which was normally not allowed. This led to resentment from some of the other boys, and Finley and Aisling quickly learned how to fight as a pair, and Finley how to fight blind, as the bullies were fond of stealing his sunglasses, leaving him vulnerable to the painful light unless he closed his eyes. That blind-fighting earned him respect and the bullies left them alone after that.
When they graduated high school, the twins were faced with a difficult choice. Finley wasn't ready for college yet, wanting to raise some funds for it so as not to be as heavily in debt, but both twins have a deep-rooted fear of being separated due to their parents' divorce, which meant Aisling didn't want to go either. Then, by sheer chance, Aisling discovered the news story about NASA gathering people to send into space to escape the resource Wars going on-which they thankfully had been spared the brunt of, though they heard stories-and, since it was only a small fee for those with useful training, they managed to make their way onto the ship and prepare to be colonists. But then everything changed....
